about

"Seven Come Eleven (With Hal Melia, Brian Cashwell, John Toedtman, & Erik Aylesworth)" was recorded at McCutcheon Music on November 1st, 2011. We recorded the song live with no overdubs. Hal Melia played Soprano Saxophone, Brian Cashwell played Piano, John Toedtman played Bass, Eric Aylesworth played Drums, & I (James Murrell) played Guitar & I wrote the arrangement of the song. My brother Joe Murrell was the sound engineer. It is the 6th song that I have completed for my new album "Jazz Tent Revival".

"Seven Come Eleven" was written by guitarist Charlie Christian (July 29, 1916 – March 2, 1942) and made famous by the Benny Goodman Sextet (in New York, November 22, 1939). Charlie is considered the 1st famous electric guitarist. He also is considered one of the founding fathers of the bebop movement in jazz, or if not that, at least a precursor to it because he was at the jam sessions where jazz artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, Kenny Clarke, & Thelonious Monk formed the music. Sadly Charlie's life was cut short at age 25 on March 2, 1942 by tuberculosis. We will never know what great music he might had made if he had lived longer but, I can celebrate the great music he brought to us in his short life with this recording.

I hope that you will enjoy listening to "Seven Come Eleven (With Hal Melia, Brian Cashwell, John Toedtman, & Erik Aylesworth)"!

Peace,

James Murrell
