about

"Blues For T. 2011 (With David Cousino, Shawn Stanley, & Erik Aylesworth)" was recorded at McCutcheon Music on November 14th, 2011. We recorded the song live with no overdubs. David Cousino played Guitar (right side), Shawn Stanley played Bass, Eric Aylesworth played Drums, & I (James Murrell) played Guitar (left side) & I wrote the song. It is the 5th song that I have completed for my new album "Jazz Tent Revival".

"Blues For T." was written for my friend Lester Bass who passed away several years ago. Lester played Bass with many well known jazz legends including Thelonious Monk, Wes Montgomery, Lionel Hampton’s Big Band, & many others. He taught me so much about those musicians & the music. When I first met Lester, he had on this hat that I thought was so cool, so I told him that I liked it a lot. He said “Oh, that’s my Thelonious hat. I got that from T.” I didn’t understand what he meant by that so I said “It sure looks like something Thelonious would wear.”, and then Lester said “He did wear it. He gave it to me.” Then I said “So who is T.”, and he said “Oh, that was what Thelonious’ friends called him - T.” So, that’s how I came up with the title "Blues For T." - it's for Thelonious Monk & my departed friend & mentor Lester Bass.

I hope that you will enjoy listening to "Blues For T. 2011 (With David Cousino, Shawn Stanley, & Erik Aylesworth)"!

Peace,
